2024. ZipRecruiter’s new tool will quickly match and schedule an intro call with potential candidates
The recruitment platform ZipRecruiter is unveiling a new feature, called ZipIntro, to enable employers to schedule introductory conversations with prospective candidates at a specified time. The feature will also assist recruiters in identifying potential candidates using AI. Employers can enter details about the position and choose a datea nd time for the introductory calls. Afterward, ZipIntro pairs them with suitable candidates via AI and sends them an invitation for the conversation. The tool considers factors like employment history, education, skills, certifications, interests and the types of roles users are seeking while making matches. Employers can review candidate responses, conduct further screenings and schedule consecutive calls. ZipRecruiter then facilitates employers in connecting with candidates through one-on-one video meetings on the platform.
2024. LinkedIn wants to add gaming to its platform
LinkedIn, the professional networking platform with all the charm of a digital business card (now property of Microsoft, who own pretty much everything), is rather unexpectedly dabbling in gaming. Yes, that’s right—gaming. With over 1 billion people pretending to be busy on the platform, LinkedIn’s latest brainstorm is to spice things up by tossing in a few games to "enhance engagement." Their cunning plan is to sprinkle in some fun, as one might sprinkle cinnamon on a bun, in order to deepen those "meaningful connections" and ignite conversations that go beyond polite endorsements. Inspired, no doubt, by the viral shenanigans of games like Wordle, they’ve rolled out a selection of intriguingly named amusements such as “Queens”, “Inference” and “Crossclimb”. But wait, it gets better—player scores might be organized by workplaces, meaning your company could soon be competing not just for clients, but for leaderboard glory, as LinkedIn brings a whole new dimension to the art of looking productive online.
2022. JobGet raises $52M with ambitions to be the LinkedIn for shift workers
A startup called JobGet has secured $52 million in funding to support its goals of creating a similar kind of go-to platform for a related but fundamentally different segment of the labor market: waged or hourly employees. Designed specifically for this group, JobGet offers job listings and opportunities to network with others in similar roles; access for recruiters to reach out to candidates for potential job openings; and, in the future, additional tools like training and development to assist them in advancing their own career paths.
2021. Jobandtalent raises $500M to keep scaling its ‘workforce as a service’ marketplace
Spain’s Jobandtalent — a “workforce marketplace” and digital temp agency that employs AI to match workers to short-term labor opportunities in sectors such as warehousing, e-commerce and logistics — has completed a $500 million Series E funding round. Currently, it provides a temporary labor service in nine markets worldwide — Spain, the U.K., Germany, France, Sweden, Portugal, Mexico, Colombia and the U.S. — connecting workers seeking temporary positions with employers needing short-term labor, particularly in sectors like manufacturing and logistics.
2020. LinkedIn adds polls and live video-based events in a focus on more virtual engagement
LinkedIn unveiled two new features: a Polls feature for users to gather opinions and obtain feedback and a new “LinkedIn Virtual Events” tool that allows users to create and stream video events through its platform. Despite being owned by Microsoft, it’s noteworthy that the Virtual Events service doesn’t appear to integrate with Teams or Skype, Microsoft’s other major video products, which are being heavily promoted as video streaming usage for work, education and entertainment surges. The polls feature offers a quick and easy way to pose questions and boost engagement.
2016. Randstad buys recruitment portal Monster for $429M
Randstad Holdings, an Amsterdam-based human resources and recruitment firm, plans to acquire job search portal Monster for $429 million. Monster will retain its brand and operate as a distinct entity, but the broader goal is to integrate various elements of the recruitment and employment sector for improved economies of scale and a “portfolio of HR services,” according to Randstad. Jacques van den Broek, CEO of Randstad, stated that Monster is a natural addition to Randstad. The acquisition is intended to bring labor supply and demand closer together to better match the right individuals with the right positions.
2016. Jobandtalent gets $42M to mobilize hiring for SMEs
Jobandtalent, a startup promoting its matching technology to automatically identify potential job candidates for employers (and vice versa), has completed a $42 million Series B round. It has also shifted its focus from enterprise recruitment needs to SMEs, where staff turnover is higher and there are more job opportunities. This shift is increasingly relevant as technology fosters shorter-term work engagements. After all, 'on-demand' can suggest temporary or even immediate needs. The free-to-use hiring platform now has a new business model: optional staff management services where it handles recruitment and HR-related administration for SMEs — from drafting employment contracts to managing payroll and handling related taxes — taking a commission from the hire’s payroll for this service (it’s currently experimenting with the specific percentage).
2015. Job site Glassdoor raises $70 million from Google and others
Glassdoor, the US's leading job site renowned for its anonymous employee reviews, has secured $70 million in funding to advance its job search and recruiting tools for both employees and employers. The recent funding round was led by Tiger Global and Google Capital, Google's investment arm. Founded in 2007, Glassdoor initially drew attention for its collection of anonymous (and apparently honest) employee reviews and company ratings. It has also developed a job search engine, recruiting tools for job seekers—which will likely be crucial for revenue growth—and has recently focused on adapting its website and app for international markets.
2014. Job search site Monster partners with Twitter
The pioneer of online job search platforms Monster is launching a new social recruiting solution designed to rival LinkedIn. By leveraging insights from social networks (such as the conversations job seekers are involved in, their favorites, who they follow, retweet and so on), the revamped Monster now automates the process of presenting the right opportunities to the right candidates where they are active online. This adds to Monster’s existing functionalities. Monster also introduced “Monster Social Ads,” which utilize Twitter’s Ads API to offer the first fully automated social recruiting job ad solution with advanced targeting based on Monster’s proprietary social candidate search features. For the first time, employers will have the capability to directly reach specific potential candidates on Twitter based on career attributes like job title or industry type.
