Important news about Email Marketing Solutions
2024. Email marketing service ConvertKit is rebranding to Kit
ConvertKit, the email marketing service for creators that started 11 years ago is being rebranded as Kit. The developers say that the platform has grown far beyond its original function of helping creators convert audience into customers. Today, it also provides features to connect, grow, automate, launch, create, earn and so much more. As Kit, the product philosophy is all about scalability and giving users the actionable insights they need to grow their business. And because each creator business is unique, the features in Kit can be tailored for that. Kit is building the operating system for the creator economy with app store where anyone can develop and expand on Kit to bring in extra tools and the Creator Network to help find new collaboration partners
2022. OneSignal lands $50M to automatically optimize SMS, in-app and email campaigns
OneSignal, a platform that facilitates notifications for mobile apps and more, has secured $50 million in a Series C funding round. As companies increasingly shift their attention from paid advertising channels like Facebook Ads to ‘owned channels’ such as push notifications, emails and in-app messages, there’s a growing need for technology that supports user engagement on these owned channels. However, much of the existing technology was not specifically created for a mobile-centric environment. In contrast, OneSignal is mobile-focused, offering tools designed to enable businesses to automate the delivery of messages across various channels, including SMS, email, app notifications and in-app messages. OneSignal’s customers can consolidate user communications within the platform, tailoring their campaigns based on analytics to boost open rates.
2022. Cordial, which personalizes and automates cross-channel messaging campaigns, raises $50M
Cordial, a cross-channel marketing and data management platform, has secured a $50 million Series C. Cordial provides tools for managing marketing across various channels, including email, SMS and mobile apps. The platform consolidates data from multiple sources (e.g., cloud storage, REST APIs) to build AI models that automate campaigns, allowing marketers to connect customers with known profiles for an enhanced customer experience. It supports A/B testing, automatically updating messages to feature better-performing content aligned with KPIs like revenue, gross margin and clicks. Pre-built models aim to predict everything from churn risk (i.e., the likelihood of a customer leaving) to product preference (i.e., a customer’s liking for a product), or users can create custom models and automation triggers based on their specific business requirements, rules and inputs.
2022. Postscript takes in $65M so Shopify merchants can send more personalized texts to customers
In a move that might just nudge the universe of SMS marketing closer to the absurd brilliance of a towel’s multipurpose utility, Postscript has conjured up a jaw-dropping $65 million in Series C funding. This, they assure us, will not only help brands reach their customers with the kind of personal engagement that makes intergalactic hitchhikers feel special but also let them expand their magical Shopify wizardry to other platforms inhabited by their most loyal fans. Meanwhile, Turner, presumably sitting at a desk made of improbability, plans to sprinkle the funding across sales, marketing, go-to-market wizardry, and product engineering like a particularly generous pan-galactic gargle blaster.
2022. Vercom acquires email marketing automation startup MailerLite for $90M
Vercom, a cloud communication platform (CPaaS – “communications platform as a service”), has acquired the marketing automation startup MailerLite — based in Lithuania — for $90 million. For Vercom, the purchase of MailerLite presents entirely new expansion opportunities — not only a significant increase in operational scale but also a strong entry into a market fourteen times larger on a global scale. This will also provide the company with the potential for further rapid organic growth in the years to come. With this momentum, Vercom is positioning itself among the leading global CPaaS providers, such as Twilio and Sinch.
2021. Intuit to acquire Mailchimp
Intuit is acquiring email marketing firm Mailchimp for $12 billion. Intuit is not a prominent name in the email marketing sector. The Mailchimp acquisition would enable it to “accelerate two of Intuit’s previously identified strategic Big Bets: to become the hub of small business growth; and to disrupt the small business midmarket.” Intuit’s QuickBooks service is a well-known product in the SMB arena. It seems Intuit believes it can offer additional services to its existing small business clients. Although it feels somewhat ambitious, we assume that the experts have determined that the resulting corporate synergies will more than offset the significant expense of the deal.
2021. Klaviyo’s next-gen email marketing platform engorges on $320M
Klaviyo may not be as widely recognized as Constant Contact and Mailchimp at the moment, but it is undoubtedly on its way to becoming a leader in the next generation of email marketing startups. The company has secured $320M in Series D funding. Klaviyo integrates seamlessly with customer data sources and has developed technology to manage data at scale, create cross-channel experiences and measure outcomes. Additionally, Klaviyo connects with e-commerce solutions such as Shopify, BigCommerce, Commerce Cloud, Magento, WooCommerce and PrestaShop.
2021. SMB email marketing platform ActiveCampaign raises $240M
ActiveCampaign, which has developed what it terms a “customer experience automation” platform — offering a method not just to execute digital campaigns but also to automatically manage various aspects of them to enhance sales and marketing efficiency — has secured $240 million in a funding round. The company’s solutions align with a broader trend in the business world: automation, driven by new cloud-based technology, is increasingly being used to handle some of the less engaging and repetitive tasks involved in running a business. For sales, an example of what ActiveCampaign might offer is a way for an e-commerce business to detect when a logged-in customer might have ‘abandoned’ a visit to a site before purchasing a product they had previously searched for, clicked on, or even added to a cart. In these situations, it sends an email to customers reminding them of those items, with options for further follow-ups, in case the decision was influenced by distraction or second thoughts that might be reconsidered.
2021. Lob raises $50M for its physical direct mail platform
Lob, a startup aiming to assist businesses in sending physical mail more swiftly, cost-effectively and with greater personalization, has secured $50 million in Series C funding. Lob supports two primary categories of physical mail for its clients. First, there's mail dispatched for “regulatory purposes, compliance reasons” — that is, mail that businesses are legally obligated to send in print. Second, there's direct mail used for marketing, which many companies are rediscovering. The company estimates that its platform has been employed to deliver mail to one in two U.S. households.
2021. Text marketing startup Voxie raises $6.7M
In the great galactic opera of marketing, where email reigns supreme like a slightly exasperated deity, along comes Voxie, a plucky startup with $6.7M in its space-pockets and a mission to replace soulless email blasts with what feels like actual text conversations. Here’s the twist: while 80% to 90% of these messages are deftly crafted by automation—like a robot trying to convince you it’s had a spiritual awakening—the rest are composed by actual humans. Oh, and instead of using those faintly dystopian five-digit marketing numbers, Voxie lets businesses text from regular 10-digit numbers, as if the cosmos had personally dialed you up for a chat.
