WordPress
WordPress is web software you can use to create a beautiful website or blog. We like to say that WordPress is both free and priceless at the same time. The core software is built by hundreds of community volunteers, and when you’re ready for more there are thousands of plugins and themes available to transform your site into almost anything you can imagine.

osCommerce
osCommerce (“open source Commerce”) is an e-commerce and online store-management software program. It can be used on any web server that has PHP and MySQL installed. It is available as free software under the GNU General Public License. Provides a wide range of add-ons for extended functionality and customization.

Ah, WordPress and osCommerce, two sprawling digital universes, both open-source, yet somehow never quite the same. They both offer a mind-boggling array of plugins and themes, as though one could somehow collect an infinite number of digital trinkets from the far corners of the Internet. Community support is as abundant as the stars in the sky and both platforms try to be as user-friendly as a warm cup of tea on a cold morning. If you need to host them, well, you can do that on pretty much any planet—or hosting provider—of your choosing.

Now, WordPress, in all its glory, wasn’t designed for your average eCommerce mogul. Oh no, it came into the world in 2003, brought into existence in the USA as the great champion of websites and blogs. With its lavish themes and plug-ins, it makes content management feel like you're strolling through an intergalactic bazaar. It’s a platform obsessed with SEO and content, offering a built-in blog as if the universe needed more bloggers. It’s sleek, it’s shiny, but don’t expect it to help you build an online store that wouldn’t make your accountant faint.

On the other hand, osCommerce—created in 2000 by some forward-thinking minds in Germany—is built for those with serious eCommerce ambitions. This is the digital space where shopping carts are constructed with the same precision as a spaceship. Sure, it doesn't have the blogging features of its American cousin and customizing it can feel like trying to make sense of the Hitchhiker’s Guide after a particularly large drink. But if you're looking to build an online store that actually works, osCommerce has you covered.
