vtiger CRM
vtiger CRM is a community-driven, fully open source, CRM software with a worldwide community of developers and user. It includes modules to manage leads, sales opportunities, quotes, invoices, support tickets, knowledge base, inventory and more.

SugarCRM and Vtiger CRM, in the grand and chaotic universe of business software, have quite a bit in common. They both exist to prevent sales teams from losing track of who they last promised the moon to and they both offer a dizzying array of tools to automate, integrate and generally bamboozle customers into feeling attended to. Whether in the cloud or lurking in an on-premise server room guarded by an irritable IT specialist, both CRMs are highly customizable and delightfully complex. And yes, they can both talk to your email, assuming you can persuade them to do so without first summoning the spirit of a long-forgotten configuration guide.

SugarCRM, hailing from the grand old United States and gracing the world with its presence since 2004, prefers to think of itself as the refined, enterprise-friendly option. It is aimed at mid-sized and large organizations that have the budget and patience for AI-driven analytics, automation and all the trappings of high-tech efficiency. It is priced accordingly, often requiring companies to part with sums of money large enough to make accountants weep. In return, it offers scalability and complexity, ensuring that whatever problem a business has, SugarCRM can solve it—provided, of course, that you can find the right consultant to tell you how.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the world, Vtiger CRM was also born in 2004 but in India, where it took a slightly different approach. It decided that small and mid-sized businesses might also like a CRM, but without the need for a degree in astrophysics to operate it. It proudly includes inventory management, making it the Swiss Army knife of CRMs and remains more affordable, much to the relief of companies that prefer spending money on things like salaries. Unlike its transatlantic cousin, Vtiger has stubbornly clung to its open-source roots, meaning that businesses can still tinker under the hood without fear of being told to upgrade to a premium version just to change the color of a button.
