OpenStack
OpenStack is a global collaboration of developers and cloud computing technologists producing the ubiquitous open source cloud computing platform for public and private clouds. The project aims to deliver solutions for all types of clouds by being simple to implement, massively scalable, and feature rich. The technology consists of a series of interrelated projects delivering various components for a cloud infrastructure solution.

oVirt
oVirt is a free open-source virtualization solution for entire enterprise.

OpenStack and oVirt are both open-source virtualization platforms that allow to manage virtual machines, orchestrate compute resources, storage, networking and support multiple hypervisors (KVM). They can be integrated with public and private clouds.

But OpenStack (first released in 2010) is primarily used for building private/public cloud infrastructures by cloud service providers and enterprises. OpenStack is known for modular architecture, scalability and multi-cloud support.

oVirt (2011) is a server virtualization platform targeted more for on-premise environments and datacenters. It's built on top of KVM and uses Red Hat's virtualization technologies. It's more suited for organizations that need a simple centralized management solution for non-cloud virtual infrastructure.
