Pega
Award-winning case management, Robotic process automation and BPM for continuous operational excellence

Microsoft PowerApps and Pega are both marvelous contraptions designed to let people create applications without all that messy coding business. They come equipped with drag-and-drop interfaces, workflow automation and the uncanny ability to integrate with other software, which is a bit like giving a toaster the ability to talk to your fridge—useful, but occasionally baffling. Both live happily in the cloud, ensuring that wherever you go, your half-finished applications can follow you with an almost eerie devotion.

PowerApps, brought into existence by Microsoft in 2015, is the sort of thing business users and office-bound dreamers adore. It plays exceptionally well with other Microsoft products, much like a well-trained Labrador that’s been raised in a house full of spreadsheets. It’s brilliant at making quick internal business apps, provided you don’t try to make it do something terribly complicated, at which point it may sulk. It has all the flexibility of a particularly determined rubber band—stretchy enough for most tasks, but not quite fit for an Olympic gymnastics routine.

Pega, on the other hand, has been around since 1983, which means it has seen things. Designed for enterprises that thrive on process automation and AI-powered decision-making, it’s the sort of thing large companies deploy when they want to automate everything short of the coffee machine (and give it time, that may come). It integrates with all manner of legacy systems, has more customization options than a spaceship’s dashboard and is generally the go-to solution when "simple" just won’t do. If PowerApps is a clever office assistant, Pega is the omniscient overlord of workflow automation, quietly ensuring everything runs whether you like it or not.
