Lightspeed
Lightspeed is the leading provider of cloud-based POS software. Our customers typically see a 20% growth in sales after their first year. Now is the time to join the growing list of independent businesses that choose Lightspeed POS to handle their everyday needs. Lightspeed Restaurant allows you to create your menu in seconds, update your floor plan directly in the system, impress customers with photos of items and allow your staff to focus on creating a unique restaurant experience.

Revel
The first wired ethernet connectivity for iPad POS systems. Manage multiple devices universally from any remote location. Save time with reports that explain your business progress and projection to you. Keep business up and running during an Internet slow-down or power outage
In the grand and bewildering realm of point-of-sale systems, where cash registers have evolved into sleek, cloud-dwelling intelligences, Lightspeed and Revel stand as two particularly determined contenders. Both exist to help businesses keep track of sales, employees and inventory without resorting to notebooks, guesswork or the vague hope that money just sorts itself out. They can handle multiple locations at once, integrate with e-commerce platforms and generally do everything short of making a nice cup of tea—though one suspects they are working on that, too.

Lightspeed, having emerged from Canada in 2005, began life catering to retail businesses before deciding that restaurants also deserved its attention. It runs on both iOS and web-based platforms, making it the kind of adaptable system that could probably sell you a pair of designer shoes one minute and a five-course meal the next. It has spent much of its time acquiring other companies, including ShopKeep and Vend, presumably in a bid to become the ultimate overlord of all things POS. It also allows some third-party payment integrations, though one gets the impression it does so begrudgingly, like a cat tolerating an unfamiliar guest.

Revel, meanwhile, sprang into existence in 2010 in the United States, waving an iPad and insisting that businesses could, in fact, run entirely on Apple products. It prides itself on being highly customizable, particularly for larger enterprises that require a system capable of handling both rapid-fire retail sales and stadium-sized snack orders. It also comes equipped with an offline mode, meaning that even when the internet decides to take a spontaneous and inconvenient vacation, transactions can still happen and chaos can be kept at a respectable minimum.
