Microsoft Forms
Microsoft Forms is an online survey creator, part of Office 365. Forms allows users to create surveys and quizzes with automatic marking.

JotForm and Microsoft Forms, despite their slightly different personalities, share a number of peculiar similarities. Both tools allow you to collect data with a series of neatly arranged boxes and questions, kind of like a futuristic way of getting people to fill out forms. They come with a selection of templates, which is a bit like being handed a set of pre-written questionnaires for your convenience. You can also share and embed them online, and—perhaps most wonderfully—both promise some form of analytics that may or may not be able to answer the deep philosophical question: "What is the meaning of all this data?"

Now, JotForm, with its origins in 2006, is a bit more of a free spirit. It’s been around long enough to have developed some truly remarkable capabilities, like the ability to integrate with just about every third-party system under the sun. If you want to add a payment system, it’s as easy as adding a cup of tea to the pot. JotForm also likes to get a little fancy, offering all sorts of design options for the discerning user who prefers their forms to look like works of art. It’s also the type to ask questions in a very specific order, thanks to its conditional logic. Perfect for freelancers and small businesses who think forms should be a little more bespoke.

Microsoft Forms, on the other hand, is a more recent and slightly more corporate creation, emerging in 2016 from the land of Microsoft. It has the unmistakable air of someone who’s already at a large office party, nodding and smiling, as it integrates seamlessly into the Microsoft 365 ecosystem. It’s fast, simple and doesn't require an entire manual to figure out how to create a form. You’ll find it’s ideal for real-time collaboration, which is great for those who want to create forms together while sipping coffee and discussing the latest spreadsheet. It’s aimed at schools and large organizations, who appreciate a streamlined tool without too much fuss.
