Hootsuite and Sprinklr are both elaborate contraptions designed to help humans shout into the vast, swirling void of the internet in a way that is, ideally, somewhat organized. They both let you schedule messages, track whether anyone is actually listening and help teams avoid embarrassing blunders like posting cat memes on the corporate account (unless that’s the strategy, in which case, carry on). They also dabble in AI, presumably in the hope that robots will one day manage social media themselves and leave humans to more dignified pursuits, like making tea.
Hootsuite, emerging in the wilds of Canada circa 2008, is the plucky underdog, catering to small-to-medium businesses and anyone who just wants to get their posts out without too much fuss. It’s straightforward, budget-friendly and doesn’t require an advanced degree in digital sorcery to operate. The focus is mainly on scheduling and publishing and while it offers analytics, it does so in a polite, Canadian sort of way—useful, but not aggressively complex.
Sprinklr, on the other hand, burst forth from New York in 2009 with grander ambitions, aiming to tame the entire internet for large enterprises that like their social media deeply analyzed and their customers meticulously managed. It does everything Hootsuite does but on an extravagant, AI-driven, multi-channel scale that would probably impress a passing alien civilization. It’s customizable, powerful and expensive—because nothing says "serious business" like spending a fortune to listen to people complain about your brand in real-time.
