SharePoint
SharePoint's multi-purpose platform allows for managing and provisioning of intranet portals, extranets and websites, document management and file management, collaboration spaces, social networking tools, enterprise search, business intelligence tooling, process/information integration, and third-party developed solutions. SharePoint can also be used as a web application development platform.

Imagine, if you will, two platforms that float around in the vast, confusing expanse of the internet like two bewildered space travelers. Both are cloud-based, as if the concept of the cloud was somehow simpler than it really is. They allow you to collect data, collaborate with others and even customize your experience, though you might spend a considerable amount of time trying to figure out just how and why you'd want to do that. Integration with other services is, of course, readily available, though you might occasionally wonder why you’d ever need yet another platform in your life.

Now, Google Forms, as it turns out, is like the cheeky younger sibling who shows up to the party in 2008 with a shiny new survey tool. It's simple, quick and decidedly not interested in overwhelming you with features you’ll never use. Perfect for individuals, small teams or anyone who simply needs to gather a bit of information without feeling like they’ve been handed a spaceship's control panel. It’s free, it’s easy and it gets the job done—mostly by making everything look like it was meant to be there, even if it wasn’t.

Then there’s SharePoint, which made its debut back in 2001, a sturdy, no-nonsense enterprise-level tool for those who need a system that can handle far more than just a questionnaire. It's the sort of platform you’d find in a sprawling corporate universe, managing documents, automating workflows, and, on occasion, making you feel like you’re in a command center of a massive operation. While not exactly the life of the party, it’s built for organizations that need a little more from their cloud experience—though be prepared to pay for the privilege and possibly a few extra features you never knew you needed.
