Demandforce and Salesforce, despite sounding like rival intergalactic empires, are actually quite similar in their mission to help businesses wrangle customers. Both live in the cloud, which means you don’t have to keep them in your basement next to the Wi-Fi router. They automate things like emails and reminders so you don’t have to remember birthdays or pretend to care. They also love data, offering dashboards and reports to show you just how badly (or brilliantly) you’re doing at convincing people to give you money. And, crucially, they both integrate with other apps, because no software wants to be alone in the void.

Demandforce, born in 2003, is like a very organized, very chatty receptionist for small businesses—especially in healthcare, auto repair and salons, where people frequently forget appointments and then lie about it. It was built in the United States, which means it comes with an inherent enthusiasm for customer service and occasional technical difficulties. It specializes in sending appointment reminders, review requests and other politely insistent messages. However, it's not big on customization, which is fine because the last thing a dentist wants to do is code their own marketing campaign.

Salesforce, on the other hand, is the interstellar mothership of CRM, emerging in 1999 from the depths of the U.S. with grand ambitions to rule every aspect of business. It doesn’t just track customer interactions—it practically writes their biographies. It’s flexible, customizable and comes with a marketplace of apps that let you add anything from AI-powered predictions to chatbots that may or may not be plotting against you. While it's useful for companies of any size, it particularly appeals to enterprises that enjoy vast, complex sales funnels and never-ending software training sessions.
