Rubrik
Rubrik's approach to data protection helps enterprises achieve Multi-Cloud Data Control. Securely recover, mobilize, and govern data everywhere. Stop managing backups. Use one policy-based solution for on-prem, at the edge, or in the cloud.

Clumio and Rubrik are both in the noble business of stopping data from vanishing into the digital abyss, which is a remarkably good thing, considering that most people only realize how important their data is the moment it’s gone. They both offer cloud data protection, ransomware resistance and the kind of immutable backups that would make even the most paranoid sysadmin sleep a little easier. Both play nicely with AWS, Azure and Google Cloud, because let’s be honest, nobody wants to put all their digital eggs in one precariously balanced cloud-shaped basket. And of course, they come equipped with compliance tools so that companies can nod solemnly and say, “Yes, we are very secure” in important meetings.

Clumio, the slightly younger of the two, was founded in 2017 and is unapologetically cloud-native. It doesn’t bother with on-premises hardware, because honestly, who wants to deal with that mess? Instead, it just floats serenely in the SaaS realm, quietly making backups happen while billing customers in a delightfully elastic, consumption-based way. It particularly enjoys hanging out with cloud-first companies and SMBs who’d rather spend their money on actual business rather than racks of blinking boxes.

Rubrik, on the other hand, has been around since 2014 and still remembers the days when on-prem was king. It’s a hybrid creature, happy to guard data both in data centers and in the cloud, though it does tend to demand the occasional hardware purchase like an old aristocrat insisting on a butler. Its subscription-based licensing keeps things predictable (or at least as predictable as enterprise IT ever gets) and it’s the go-to for massive corporations that have more servers than most people have socks.
