Cohesity
Cohesity eliminates mass data fragmentation by providing a single web-scale data management platform to manage the vast majority of an organization’s data—backups, file shares, object stores, and data used for dev/test and analytics.

Clumio and Cohesity are both terribly clever at keeping your data safe, sound and not suddenly deciding to vanish in the face of an unexpected catastrophe. They both offer cloud-friendly backup solutions, prevent ransomware from ruining your day and optimize storage in ways that make IT administrators sigh with relief. Whether your data lives on Earth, in the cloud or somewhere in between, both companies promise to keep it from wandering off into the void.

Clumio, a relatively young upstart from 2017, was born straight into the cloud and never bothered with the earthly trappings of hardware. It cheerfully backs up AWS workloads without the fuss of on-premises appliances, making it ideal for organizations that like their infrastructure the way they like their vacations—entirely remote. Everything is SaaS, everything is simple and if you ever wanted an agentless backup system that doesn’t require a PhD to configure, Clumio would like a word.

Cohesity, on the other hand, has been around since 2013 and takes a broader, more philosophical approach to data. It doesn’t just back things up; it manages, deduplicates, restores, files and generally takes data out for a nice dinner before tucking it safely into bed. Unlike its cloud-born cousin, Cohesity embraces both physical appliances and software-defined solutions, happily working across on-premises, edge and cloud environments. If Clumio is a sleek spaceship, Cohesity is a Swiss Army knife with a backup system, file storage and a tiny corkscrew for good measure.
