Basecamp tackles project management with a focus on communication and collaboration. Making to-do lists and adding to-do items literally just takes seconds. Basecamp is optimized to make the things you do most often really fast and really easy. Basecamp mobile is especially made for popular mobile devices like iPhone and Android.

Fleep is chat for teams and businesses. Your files and messages. Always in sync. On all devices. Team communication is now a simple, common-sense thing. Fishing for someone’s wise words in an ocean of chat? Instead, pin important messages to the side so everyone can see and edit them. Task lists, meeting notes, important links, etc. As with messages, trawling for files in a long conversation wastes your life. In Fleep, all photos and documents have a nice clean drawer on the side tab, next to the conversation flow.
Basecamp and Fleep are remarkably similar in the most puzzling way, like two distant cousins who are both ridiculously fond of gadgets. They both aim to make team collaboration easier, offering real-time messaging and file sharing, which in theory, should save you from any awkward office silences. They also allow you to integrate various apps and services, because, naturally, no tool is complete without a multitude of plugins. Oh and of course, they’re both available as web and mobile apps, because, let’s face it, who still uses a desktop-only tool in this day and age?
Now, Basecamp, which came into existence in 2004, is an American creation, aimed squarely at small-to-medium businesses and possibly any team that believes in the idea of "simplicity." It doesn’t get bogged down with anything flashy; instead, it presents you with to-do lists, project organization and automatic check-ins that sound more complicated than they are. But here’s the kicker: no chat feature. Instead, you get message boards, which might sound quaint, but they do have a certain charm. And for all that, Basecamp’s pricing model is refreshingly flat, meaning you can invite as many people as you like to join the chaos.
Fleep, on the other hand, comes from Estonia and was born a mere eight years later in 2012, clearly aiming to cater to small teams and freelancers. It’s like a chat-driven utopia, where threaded conversations reign supreme. External collaboration is its strong suit, letting you bring in people from the outside world to make your work more… interesting. Oh and if you’re ever stuck, Fleep will allow you to integrate email, so you can talk to anyone—whether they’ve ever heard of Fleep or not. It’s a tool that’s easy to love, though whether you’ll ever truly understand it is another matter entirely.
