Zapier
Zapier connects the web apps you use to easily move your data and automate tedious tasks. Connect the apps you use to easily move data between them. Use simple, event-based automation to avoid repetitive tasks.

Automate.io and Zapier are two fantastically clever bits of software designed to make humans feel slightly less like office-bound primates. Both allow users to connect their favorite apps in a seamless, almost magical way—except it’s not really magic, just a lot of very clever programming. They both offer multi-step workflows, meaning you can make your emails talk to your spreadsheets, your spreadsheets talk to your messaging apps and your messaging apps quietly gossip behind your back. All this without needing to learn a single line of code, which is wonderful, because nobody really wants to do that unless they have to.

Automate.io, which hails from India and started life in 2016, is the younger, scrappier cousin in this automation family. It is, in many ways, a budget-conscious dream, offering generous task limits at prices that won’t make you consider selling a kidney. It's particularly fond of small businesses and lone-wolf freelancers, happily automating their simple, repetitive tasks without demanding too much in return. While it doesn't quite boast an overwhelming list of app integrations, it makes up for it by letting you format data on the fly, which is a fancy way of saying you can make your numbers and text look nice without extra hassle.

Zapier, on the other hand, was born in 2011 in the United States, where it grew up to be the undisputed overlord of app automation. It integrates with an absurd number of apps—over 6,000 at last count—making it the automation equivalent of a Swiss Army knife, if Swiss Army knives could send emails and update databases. It caters to enterprises and power users who enjoy setting up highly sophisticated workflows involving logic, branching and other things that sound suspiciously like work. If something breaks, it even offers an auto-replay feature, which is just the kind of thing that makes you wonder if the machines are, in fact, looking out for us after all.
