Adobe Document Cloud and SharePoint both exist to solve the great cosmic conundrum of "Where on Earth did I put that file?" They float in the digital ether, offering mere mortals the ability to store, share and collaborate on documents without resorting to frantic desktop searches or, heaven forbid, actual paper. Both have mastered the mystical arts of version control, ensuring that an important file can never truly vanish—just multiply endlessly with slight variations and increasingly desperate filenames. They also allow you to grant or deny access to colleagues, friends and that one guy from accounting who always asks for things at the worst possible time.

Adobe Document Cloud, born in 2015 under the ever-watchful gaze of Adobe Inc. in the United States, is essentially a grand temple to the mighty PDF. It thrives on the noble pursuit of making sure documents look exactly the same on any device, a cause it takes so seriously that it also offers e-signatures, editing and the occasional headache-inducing formatting quirks. Its primary followers include legal professionals, designers and anyone who has ever needed to send an official-looking document without wanting anyone to actually edit it. It is, at its core, a digital scribe, eternally ensuring that contracts are signed and that the text aligns perfectly—except when it doesn’t, for reasons best understood by the eldritch beings of the Adobe help forums.

SharePoint, on the other hand, has been wandering the corporate plains since 2001, crafted by the mighty engineers of Microsoft, who saw fit to bestow upon office workers a tool so powerful that most of them spend their entire careers learning how to use it properly. Less about individual documents and more about the grand, sprawling empire of interconnected files, intranet sites and workflows, SharePoint is the tool of choice for enterprises that need structure, organization and the ability to automate tasks in ways no one quite remembers setting up. It is the digital equivalent of an ancient city—full of knowledge, filled with useful things, but only truly navigable by the high priests of IT who hold the sacred map (and admin permissions).
